Who Am I?

My name is Heather and I am dedicated to live a life of purpose and service to others.
I have over 20 years of related experience, between working over 15 years at a local mental health hospital, approximately 2 1/2 years in social services in a nursing facility, as well as unofficially opening The Haven of Healing in 2013.
The Haven of Healing, LLC became an official entity in 2016.
In March of 2000, I began working with youth on the inpatient unit at a local acute inpatient mental health hospital. In the summer of 2009, I moved into the assessment center where interviewing those in crises and reviewing the cases with local psychiatrists further refined my skill-base. I was a Master Crisis Prevention Instructor, training hospital staff from 2007-2015 on personal safety techniques, recognition of behavior, communication, and how to interact effectively with those in our care. I have volunteered as a counselor on the Women’s Bureau Rape Crisis Hotline as well as represented mental health as a guest speaker for a local college’s senior Criminal Justice thesis course.
Throughout the course of my professional life, I have talked to hundreds, if not thousands, of people going through crisis and trying to cope with multitudes of issues. This involved talking and mentoring those who have dealt with abuse issues, suicidality, and emotional upheaval, as well as looking at situations and issues are presenting themselves to help determine the best course of action. You can say navigating crisis and life obstacles is my area of specialty.
Throughout my career in mental health, I have been interested in alternative modalities, beginning with my studies for my Bachelors in Anthropology. I first became introduced (and, in truth, fascinated) to the idea of the energetic body, and that it is possible to interact with this energy in 2007. I didn't hear about the modality of Reiki until 2011, and when I realized it was an energetic modality used to work on the energetic body...I needed to learn more...then decided it needed to be a part of my life. Since this decision, my own personal growth has intensified and my life purpose clarified. I obtained my Technical Certificate in Therapeutic Massage in 2015, spending the following year working in an upscale spa and with a local chiropractor.
